I'm being lazy, for the most part, during our current semester break, at least as far as writing is concerned, but I'm still reading my favorites. And I have another great quote from Walter Williams, in his most recent article, "Women in Combat." The article opens with the following words:
"A senior Defense Department official said that the ban on women in combat should be lifted because the military's goal is 'to provide a level, gender-neutral playing field.' I'd like to think the goal of the military should be to have the toughest, meanest fighting force possible."
Read the rest of Dr. Williams' article and then I will give you the rest of your life to try to convince me that there is anybody in government with enough brains to fill a thimble. And these are people that more and more Americans want to give more and more control over their lives. THIS is why America will not survive.

Customs, Traditions, and Moral Values
From Dr. Walter Williams most recent article, "Are Guns the Problem?" (Jan. 16, 2013):
"Customs, traditions, moral values and rules of etiquette, not laws and government regulations, are what make for a civilized society. These behavioral norms--transmitted by example, word of mouth and religious teachings--represent a body of wisdom distilled through ages of experience, trial and error, and looking at what works. The importance of customs, traditions and moral values as a means of regulating behavior is that people behave themselves even if nobody's watching. Police and laws can never replace these restraints on personal conduct so as to produce a civilized society. At best, the police and criminal justice system are the last desperate line of defense for a civilized society. The more uncivilized we become the more laws that are needed to regulate behavior."
Of course, I have been saying that for years, and writing exactly that on this blog since I started it. I provide Dr. Williams' quote just so readers will know that I am not the only one who is saying it.
What Williams describes is the fundamental core of "conservatism"--that there are certain values, customs, traditions, etc. that have, over time, proven essential in promoting and sustaining a civilized society. I argue, of course, that those values, customs, traditions--moral laws--come from God. When a people reject them, there is bedlam in that country, as we see happening in the United States today. Modern liberalism, based upon the mythical, unscientific Darwinian theory, rejects that there are any absolute values or morals, and asserts that everything is "evolving", which means morality evolves, too, and will be decided by man, not God. Thus, the fundamental, foundation disagreement between modern conservatism and liberalism is over the existence of the Christian God; if He does exist, then obviously, liberalism is, in its very essence, wrong and destructive. If He does not exist, then there are indeed no absolute values, and society can be ruled by popular will--or, more often, by tyrants (Stalin, Hitler, Mao, et al)--not eternal, moral law, or even wise, historical traditions. To the liberal, everything is subject to change because that is the very "law" (Darwinism) of existence. But, given this crucial, fundamental difference--a belief in God--it is profoundly manifest why liberalism hates God and Christianity, and must do everything it can to destroy traditional religious belief in America. Decent, moral people, in history, have nearly always lost such a war, because they have God-given, or conscientious, restraints on their behavior; the wicked can be as ruthless as necessary, because they have no moral values. It is why Ho Chi Minh defeated Lyndon Johnson in Vietnam; it is why Mao Zedong, one of the most consciousless, brutal, pitiless human beings to ever walk the face of the earth, defeated Chiang Kai-Shek in the Chinese civil war in the 1940s. Mao and Ho didn't care how many people they killed; Johnson and Chiang had at least some scruples. And, as of 2013, in the American godless left, scruples are conspicuously absent; the decent right, by philosophy, must restrict itself. It's not a good omen for the near future.

Believe me, the information provided by Dr. Williams is only a small sampling of the degeneration of American society under liberalism. It's plain to see, but you have to dig a little bit to get statistics like those Dr. Williams presents, because the "mainstream" American media is, full throttle, in complicity with the liberal agenda. The media are no longer journalists reporting the news; they are co-conspirators, left-wing ideologues, deliberately, forcefully, hatefully, and persistently pushing the anti-Christian liberal Democratic agenda. And, with the help of the government-run education system, they are succeeding in indoctrinating vast numbers of people--apparently now, a majority. Even the strongest rock can be worn down, in time, by a consistent dripping of water. In this case, it hasn't been a drip, it's been a pounding. And too few Americans have the intelligence, and moral integrity, to resist it and to continue honoring their Creator. Even most Republicans now are totally gutless.
As the Bible and history both show, most humans will try to find excuses for sin; wickedness has always existed. What liberalism has done, over the last 50 years in America, is make it easier for Americans to find those excuses--and, worse, to rationalize them. At least before the modern left took over the culture in the United States, people knew what sin was, knew it was evil and destructive, often hid when they did it, and at least had the common sense, intelligence, and decency to know you don't exalt it (Bill Clinton), flaunt it (Barney Frank), and make it public policy (abortion and "gay" marriage) and the foundation of your culture (Hollywood). But we live in a different world now, and only the wicked revel in it and think it is a better one.
The answer...to Detroit...is more liberalism? More "progressivism"? Less God and Christianity? Perhaps the greatest tragedy of all in America is that truth is hated so vitriolically by the left that they would rather destroy the lives of countless millions of people than accept the truth that will make all men free.

Never forget, folks, this debate in America over "gun control" is not about guns, it is forever, and only, about control. Please...please...look at the history of the left since the French Revolution. Their aim is totalitarian control! It is no different--NO DIFFERENT!!--in the American left! This is the crucial issue that absolutely must be understood, but so few people do. If we think Barack Obama is different from Joseph Stalin just because Obama is an "American", then we are fools of the highest order. It has nothing to do with country, and everything to do with ideology. When it comes time to put guns to the back of people's necks, they don't want the people shooting back.

Pravda on Gun Control
From a recent Pravda article, entitled "Americans, Never Give Up Your Guns," by Stanislav Mishin:
"Do not be fooled by a belief that progressives, leftists hate guns. Oh, no, they do not. What they hate is guns in the hands of those who are not marching in lock step of their ideology. A Little More On Gun Control
I actually am in agreement with liberals on some aspects of gun control. There are weapons which have been created for the specific purpose of killing other human beings--military weapons. Those weapons should be kept in the hands of trained professionals and used only for military purposes. No civilian needs a tank, bazooka, or nuclear bomb. Or an AR-15, or any gun that can shoot dozens of rounds of ammunition within a few seconds' time. Those are not hunting weapons, those are not for protection, they are either toys--or instruments of mass murder. I have no need for an AR-15 and I don't see why anybody else does, either, for protection or otherwise. One well-placed bullet from a handgun can stop any nut with an Uzi.
The problem, of course, is, if liberals are allowed to ban AR-15s and other "assault weapons", are they going to be happy and stop there? No, they aren't, because EVERY weapon can ultimately be used as an "assault weapon." Liberals aren't after AR-15s alone; they are after every gun that Americans own; make no mistake about that, and they will never rest until they have them all. That's what makes giving in to liberals on this issue, even to the smallest degree, a very precarious matter. The camel with his nose in the tent thing, the "give an inch, take a mile" argument. They even have a saying for it in China: 得寸进尺 (de cun jin chi), or "reach for a yard after getting an inch." Liberals aren't going to stop at AR-15s and other "assault weapons" because, to them, all guns are assault weapons. They want the government to have all the guns, and they want to control the government. And they want to tell you how to live and they want to punish you, maybe even kill you, if you don't do what they tell you, and they don't want you to have the ability to shoot back if they start shooting at you. There was a very good reason why Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and other tyrants were among the greatest gun control advocates in history. And if we think it cannot happen in America, then that is an ignorance of history that could end as the most tragic ever recorded among the annals of mankind.
So, while I do agree that civilians have no business owning a military weapon, I cringe over giving liberals power to control that. The answer, as I've said before, is within people. Some countries have very strong gun control laws, and very few murders. Some countries have very strong gun control laws--and a lot of murders. Why? The answer lies in the civilized behavior of the populace. America built its traditions of civilized morality on the Christian religion. As that tradition has been increasingly eroded by liberalism, uncivilized behavior has become increasingly the norm. Rather than returning the country to a freedom based upon eternal moral law, liberals want to give government more power. Do I have to say again that, given the history of government, the greatest of all mass murderers, I think a return to Christianity would be a far wiser, and more suitable, answer.

More “progressive” brilliance. I’ve got a better idea—how about giving out free Bibles? I bet churches would donate them and the taxpayers wouldn't even have to buy them. Has anyone but me noticed that ever since liberals have booted God and the Bible out of schools and have been exalting condoms as the answer to sexual licentiousness, out-of-wedlock births in the black community has shot up to 70%, and is 40% of total births? Of course, that is exactly what liberals want, because many of those people end up on government welfare—dependent on liberals.
Paid for by decent, hard-working Americans.
If anybody thinks that that removing God from schools and a higher illegitimate rate (among other social problems) is merely a coincidence then…they are the perfect products of the government education system...
"School Obama's Daughters Attend Has 11 Armed Guards..."
Good enough for the elite, not good enough for the rest of Americans. Liberal hypocrites…Putting guards in the schools is not the ultimate answer, of course, but it is a start, as I (basically) suggested in my article on the subject last week. But ultimately, that’s not the answer. It’s mostly a moral problem, not solved by bullets but by Bibles.
Well, we could shoot all the liberals. That would be a good start, heh heh heh…

Some Facts About Gun Control
--Some of the cities with the strongest gun control laws, like Washington, DC, have the highest murder rates;
--Gun ownership is higher in rural areas than urban areas. But the murder rate is higher in urban areas;
--Gun ownership is higher among whites than blacks, but the murder rate is higher among blacks;
--Hand gun ownership doubled in America in the late 20th century, but the murder rate went down;

--Israel and Switzerland have higher rates of gun ownership than America--and lower murder rates. Finland and New Zealand also have high rates of gun ownership and low crime rates;
--Switzerland has 3 times the gun ownership of Germany, but has lower murder rates;
--For most of its history, England had very lax gun control laws. A person could buy a shotgun in London in the middle of the 20th century. New York had stricter gun control laws--and higher crime rates;
--"In 1954, there were only a dozen armed robberies in London but, by the 1990s—after decades of ever tightening gun ownership restrictions—there were more than a hundred times as many armed robberies" (Thomas Sowell, "Invincible Ignorance," Dec. 18, 2012; most of the information in this post comes from Sowell's article). The crime rate in England has gone up as the rate of gun ownership has gone down.
Wicked, undisciplined people are the problem, not guns. Youth, fed daily with violent music, violent TV shows and movies, and violent video games--and given no moral guidance because liberals have booted God and the Bible out of our education system--have no ability to distinguish right and wrong, no reason to control themselves, no cause to respect the rights and lives of others. Our government and dominant liberal philosophy create an atmosphere of disregard for human life by paying for women to kill their unborn children, and then we are shocked when the children who are born kill each other. And, keep in mind, this is "progressive."
We need liberal control, not gun control.
